What Kwankwaso failed to realize when he said that he is too qualified to be the running mate of Obi, See President Barack Obama / Joe Biden tickets
An emerging report by the Peoples Gazette has revealed what the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party Engr. Rabiu Kwankwaso recently stated. According to the report, the Kano-State-born politician said he is too qualified to be the running mate of Peter Obi who is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Recall that there have been speculations about a possible alliance between the NNPP and the Labour Party whereby either of the presidential candidates would become the running mate to the other.
However, according to the Peoples Gazette, Engr. Kwankwaso while speaking on Saturday in Gombe, during discussions on a merger with the Labour Party representatives stated that his age, political profile, and wealth of experience from both the civil service and the political realm make him too qualified to be the running mate of Peter Obi.
Going through the report, I think there is something Engr. Kwankwaso has failed to realize following this statement.
First of all, Engr. Kwankwaso has failed to realize that the political rhythm (rotation of power) concerning the 2023 presidential election favors Peter Obi as the presidential candidate more than him. This is because, in terms of power rotation, Peter Obi is on track. After all, the southern region should produce the next president of Nigeria to succeed President Buhari a northerner.
Moreover, President Buhari and Engr. Kwankwaso are from the same northwestern geopolitical zone of the country and it will be difficult for the same geopolitical zone to produce the next president. The national acceptability of Engr. Kwankwaso would be difficult based on power rotation but if he aligns with Labour Party, and drops the idea of being too qualified, he could have a better shot at the presidency after the southern region has produced the successor of President Buhari.
Secondly, despite the rich political experience of Engr. Kwankwaso having joined politics in 1992, was elected as a member of the House of Representatives representing Madobi Federal Constituency, rose to become the deputy speaker in the House, also became a two-term governor of Kano State, served as a senator and even a minister in the fourth republic, he should borrow a leaf from Joe Biden who became President Barack Obama’s running mate despite his wealth of experience in politics in the United States of America.
President Joe Biden
It is good to recall that President Joe Biden was a member of the United States Senate from 1973 to 2009 (36years). He even declared for the United States presidency in 1988 and even before Barack Obama. Hence, amidst these rich political experiences of Joe Biden, in 2019 he became the running mate of Barack Obama and was the vice president of the United States until 2017 before he won the presidential election in 2021 to become the President of the United States.
Hence, with my above narrative, it is good Engr. Kwankwaso realizes that politics is like a game of chess that requires smart moves. Hence, he should shelve the idea that “he is too qualified” to be the running mate to Peter Obi and make the best political calculations.
