Thomas Tuch”s Chelsea could reportedly throw in Timo Werner as part of a deal to sign Juventus centre-back Matthijs De Ligt.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to bolster his side’s defence while De Ligt reportedly wants to leave the Bianconeri after talks over a new contract broke down in an explosive meeting with the club.

Sky Sports Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Chelsea are preparing a £38million bid, plus Werner, for the 22-year-old Dutchman.

It’s added that the Bianconeri would want more for a player who has a release clause worth £103million.

De Ligt would be keen on a move to Chelsea though the Blues could be forced to up their fee for the defender.

Juventus meanwhile are keen on Chelsea forward Werner, though it’s reported that his wages, currently worth £270,000-per-week could cause a problem.

Werner cost Chelsea £50m in June 2020 but has struggle at the Blues, netting just nine Premier League goals in two full seasons with the club.

Last season, the 26-year-old started just 15 times in the league, scoring four goals.

Chelsea are looking for defensive reinforcements in this transfer window, having seen Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leave upon the expiration of their contracts.

Sevilla star Jules Kounde, among others, have previously been mooted for a move to Stamford Bridge.

De Ligt moved to Juventus in 2019 after guiding Ajax to the league and cup double as well as a Champions League semi-final as their youngest ever captain.

That summer, pretty much all of Europe’s biggest clubs were after the Dutchman with De Ligt eventually choosing the Italian giants.

His contract expires in 2024, and Sky Sports report there is ‘no way’ Chelsea would pay the full £103m release clause for the player who was signed for £67m.

Corriere dello Sport reports De Ligt and his camp, led by Rafaela Pimenta following the death of Mino Raiola, were unhappy with Juve’s demand that a release clause of £98m be inserted into the new deal.

De Ligt reportedly believes that figure to be too high and is looking more in the region of £68m.

There was also disagreement on wages.!
