In response to the #ENDSARS protests which has seen thousands of Nigerian youths protest the brutality of the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), protests which have swept across the nation since last week, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the demotion of two top ex-SARS officers, Abayomi Shogunle and Dolapo Badmus as part of 37 former SARS officers who were dismissed, reprimanded or demoted.
Shogunle, a former Head of the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU), and a former Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Dolapo Badmos, were demoted while others were dismissed.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) will also order the prosecution of 24 other ex-SARS operatives for various acts of misconduct.
Presidential aide, Ayo Akanji, made public the names and service numbers of the affected officers on Saturday.
In his thread, Akanji said: “Not to be misunderstood, my thread on police administrative action includes dismissed, reprimanded & demoted officers. Abayomi Shogunle & Dolapo Badmus are amongst reprimanded and demoted officers. Most of the officers were dismissed in response to #EndSARS.”
