Chelsea new boy Timo Werner heads out for a meal in Mayfair
He hasn’t spent long in London after signing for Chelsea this summer, but Timo Werner is already adjusting to his new surroundings after heading out to a restaurant in the capital on Wednesday night.
The German star joined from Leipzig in a £53million deal and has drummed up excitement ahead of next season after jetting in to watch his new team play in their final game of the season against Wolves.
And it was straight to work this week after taking part in his first Blues training session at Cobham as he attempts to gel in quickly to life at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old was seen walking around in Mayfair with a friend before going for a meal at the Amazonico restaurant.
Werner looked relaxed as he took a stroll wearing a bomber jacket and faded jeans. He has spent his whole career in Germany so will be keen to adapt quickly and hit the ground running at Chelsea.
He was put through his paces on Monday morning alone as the rest of his new team-mates were given the day off after securing Champions League football.
Kitted out in a full blue tracksuit, he was given stretching and fitness work before focusing on ball work, dribbling and some finishing exercises.
He joins Hakim Ziyech, who has also had his first training session, as the latest signing at the Bridge with Chelsea showing their intent ahead of next season.
Werner scored 34 times for Leipzig in all competitions in 2019-20 before skipping their Champions League campaign to sign for the west London club in a bid to settle down quickly.
Speaking about his arrival for the first time, Werner insisted manager Lampard was a key factor in his decision to join and feels the system he plays will be a perfect fit.
‘He [Lampard] was the main point,’ he told the club this week. ‘We talked a lot about things like system, like how he wants to play and sees me playing, and how the system fits to me.
‘He is a really nice guy who not only told me what he wants from me as a player because he wants to help me as a guy. He knows me now a little bit better and it fits very good between us and now I am happy to be here
