Court Orders Immediate Release Of Orji Uzor Kalu From Nigeria Correctional Service in Kuje, Abuja
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered for the immediate release of former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from the custody of Nigeria Correctional Service in Kuje, Abuja.
Kalu was sentenced to 12 years in prison for looting N7.65 billion belonging to Abia State. But on Friday, May 8, the Supreme Court nullified the conviction, stating that the Federal High Court in Lagos acted without jurisdiction when it convicted Kalu, his firm, Slok Nigeria Ltd and Former Director of Finance in Abia State, Jones Udeogu.
On Tuesday, May 12 Kalu through his counsel Lateef Fagbemi filed an application before the Federal High Court in Lagos seekinghis immediate release from the custody of Nigeria Correctional Service.
Justice Mohammed Liman granted the lawmaker’s application today, June 2, 2020.
This is a welcomed development to Kalu, his family and mostly Nigeria owing to the fact that Nigeria have missed the lawmaker’s immerse contributions at the red chamber towards the growth and unity of the nation
