Edo Governorship: Gov Obaseki’s Woes Deepen As IG Redeploys Edo Police Commissioner
Yesterday was a rough day for the embattled governor of Edo state as his main contender, Pastor Ize Iyamu, got the nod of the party kingmakers ahead of him, to stand as the governorship candidate for the APC.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu emerged the consensus candidate of the (APC) faction which is believed to be loyal to Adams Oshiomole, the National Chairman of the party.
The former Secretary to Edo State Government (SSG), emerged through a consensus arrangement, on Tuesday night in Abuja .
This huge blow has once again, shown Obaseki’s weakness as he does not have the full control of the party structure in the state.
Senator Francis Alimikhena who is the representative of Edo North Senatorial District made the presentation of the consensus candidate
Other members of the screening committee were a former Edo Deputy Governor Lucky Imasuen; Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe; ex-Edo Speaker Thomas Okosun; former Minority Whip of the House of Representatives Samson Osagie; ex-member of the House of Representatives Patrick Obahiagbon and Deputy Leader of the House of Representatives, Peter Akpatason.
Meanwhile today, the carpet has again, been dragged from under the feet of the governor as the police commissioner in the state has just been redeployed.
This was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba on Wednesday in Abuja.
Mba added that the Commissioners affected by the postings and redeployment are as follows; Edo State, CP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo; Osun State, CP Undie J. Adie; Bauchi State CP Lawal Jimeta Tanko; Ebonyi State, CP Philip Sule Maku; Gombe State.
Included in the list are CP Ahmed Maikudi Shehu; Ondo State, CP Bolaji Amidu Salami; Oyo State, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu; Eastern Port, CP Evelyn T. Peterside; Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD), CP Okon Etim Ene; Airport Command, CP Bello Maikwashi; and Anti-Fraud Unit (FCID Annex Lagos), CP Olukolu Tairu Shina.
With the Edo state commissioner out of the way, things seem a little bit shaky as the security structure of the state has been overhauled.
It is known that incumbents are prone to influencing the security apparatus of the state during elections and with this move, all is not well with Obaseki as his fight back to the Edo government house has just been made difficult.
