Inter Milan have identified Anthony Martial,as Lautaro transfer replacement in summer
Inter Milan are weighing up a move for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, as the San Siro club prepares to replace Lautaro Martinez this summer.
Martinez, 22, has attracted attention from across Europe this season after scoring 16 goals in all competitions and forming a potent striking partnership with former Red Devil Romelu Lukaku.
And with Barcelona in pole position to sign the Argentina striker, manager Antonio Conte is already identifying replacements.
According to Italian newspaper La Gazetta dello Sport, the former Chelsea boss is monitoring Martial as his no. 1 target once the transfer window reopens.
The Frenchman has shone for United this campaign, scoring 16 goals and providing five assists in his 34 appearances.
The 24-year-old has sometimes featured under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the left flank, though he has played as the Red Devils’ main striker this season after Lukaku left for Inter in a £74m last summer.
Martial has also had to step up in the absence of Alexis Sanchez – after the Chilean forward moved to Inter on loan – and he has certainly shown he is a man for the big occasion.
He was man of the match in the Manchester Derby last month after scoring as United beat local rivals Manchester City 2-0 at Old Trafford.
However, Martial is not the only in-form forward being monitored by Inter. The Italian giants are also interested in RB Leipzig striker and long-term Liverpool target Timo Werner.
The German has enjoyed another dazzling campaign in the Bundesliga, scoring 27 goals and assisting 12 times in all competitions.
Also capable of playing up front or on the left flank, Werner dazzled the Tottenham Hotspur defence over two legs in the Champions League last 16 – scoring one and assisting one as the Leipzig won 4-0 on aggregate.
