Ramos & Real Madrid’s contract renewal ‘still no progress’ and he can choose a team in 9 months
Ramos & Real Madrid’s talk about his contract renewal is still pending and the captain can choose a team in nine months, according to today’s AS cover.
It is reported that Real Madrid has not yet contacted their captain and his agents René (Ramos’ brother). The Spanish defender’s contract with Los Blancos will end in June 2021, when he will be over 35 years old.
AS said Madrid’s board members believe that Ramos’ contract extension will not be considered until next season.
According to the report, Madrid would offer a one-year contract (until 2022) but the centre-back would like two. Although Ramos said in February that he understood the club’s policy: “I understand that at a certain age they do it from year to year.”
The economic crisis caused by the coronavirus may be detrimental to Ramos, who is the 2nd highest-paid player after Bale at Madrid. The club’s offer to renew the contract, if they are willing to give, may reduce his salary.
On the other hand, the postponement of the Euro 2020 may be a favourable factor. If Ramos has not yet renewed his contract with Madrid, he will become a free agent. If the Spanish captain is signed by other teams for free, it is difficult for Blancos to accept.
