Ogoni clean-up:A total of 21 sites handed to contractors in Ogoniland , says Presidency
The Presidency on Sunday gave an update on the Ogoni Clean-Up project of the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
It said till date, under the New Vision for the Niger Delta, a total of 21 sites had been handed over to contractors in Ogoniland by Hydrocarbon Pollution Restoration Project under the Federal Ministry of Environment.
The Presidency recalled that 16 contractors moved to Ogoniland in January 2019 when the exercise commenced.
“This is besides the commencement of the Maritime University in Delta State now on full steam with over 1,000 students spread across 13 undergraduate courses in three faculties; and the progress made in the establishment of modular refineries, including the Niger Delta Resources Refinery, which has now moved from 1,000 barrels per day to 6,000bpd a couple of weeks ago.
“There are altogether six modular refineries currently at different stages of completion in the six Niger Delta states of Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Imo,” the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity (Office of the Vice-President), Mr Laolu Akande, said.
The Presidency said the 21 Ogoni sites were located in Eleme, Tai, Khana and Gokana local government areas in the affected Niger Delta communities.
