Rohr – We Are Waiting For FIFA To Approve Ademola Lookman process of switching allegiance from England to Nigeria.
The Technical Assistant to the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria has confirmed that Ademola Lookman has started the process of switching allegiance from England to Nigeria.
Tunde Adelakun confirmed in an interview with Shina Okeleji for Opera News that the RB Leipzig forward who was formerly of Everton has already committed his international future to Nigeria.
A part of the England U20 that won the U20 World Youth Championship two years ago and many view him as one of the most promising talents in English football but he has struggled for game time in Germany.
Last season he had a very productive loan spell at the club and a return to same form will no doubt earn him a call up to the senior national team of Nigeria for their upcoming engagement. However his switch could take as long as 18 months.
“Lookman has applied for the switch and all the documents are in order,” Nigeria’s technical assistant Tunde Adelakun told Opera News.
“It’s a positive step forward when made his commitment to Nigeria and we are just waiting for a Fifa clearance.
“Once the go-ahead is sorted, it will be up to coach Gernot Rohr to decide if his club performance would earn him a call up.”
“He’s one of three former England youth players we’ve filed for but they are all aware of the caveat,” Adelakun added.
“All the players were told that they can only earn a place in the squad by playing regular club football.”
