Super Frankie Lampard! helsea end home hoodoo to lift spirits at Stamford Bridge

There’s been a strange atmosphere on the King’s Road ahead of recent Chelsea games of late. The fans have arrived at Stamford Bridge feeling increasingly tense, after a string of shock wins for the visiting teams.

The familiar spectre of VAR hovered over Chelsea’s game against Burnley at Stamford Bridge, where the hosts ran out 3-0 winners.

Full Match Report

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored his first Premier League goal as Chelsea shrugged off their home struggles with a 3-0 win over Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard had seen his team lose three of their past four top-flight matches on their own patch and they had an early scare when a debatable offside call denied Jeff Hendrick the opener.

However, Jorginho’s 27th-minute penalty and Tammy Abraham’s 15th of the season in all competitions settled nerves.

Hudson-Odoi then got in on the act and only some later wastefulness from Abraham averted a heavier defeat for Burnley, who are four points above the relegation zone in 15th having played a game more than the four sides immediately below them.

Willian’s shot blocked on 3 mins

DEFLECTED WIDE! A short corner is worked to Willian on the left and he darts infield before lashing an effort towards the far corner, but it takes a wicked deflection off Mee and flies past the near post!

OFFSIDE! Hendrick’s goal disallowed

NO GOAL! McNeil whips a free-kick into the box that finds Mee unmarked in the middle. He heads back across goal for Hendrick to nod in at the back post, but the flag is up for offside!

Penalty Goal! Chelsea 1-0 Burnley (Jorginho)

GOAL!! CHELSEA TAKE THE LEAD! Jorginho puts his penalty away in trademark style, waiting to see where the goalkeeper was going before placing it in the opposite corner.

PENALTY! Willian charges towards the byline down the left and takes a heavy touch, but Lowton clatters into him recklessly and concedes a spot-kick!

Kepa makes a decent save

SAVE! McNeil stands over a free-kick in almost exactly the same position as for Hendrick’s disallowed goal, but this time he shoots towards the bottom-left corner and forces a low stop out of Kepa!

GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Burnley (Abraham)

GOAL!! ABRAHAM MAKES IT 2-0! James crosses from the right and Abraham meets it unmarked in the box. His header is fairly central, but Pope hesitates as Mee sprints back next to him to try and block it and the two end up getting in each other’s way, allowing the ball to bounce in! Chelsea double their lead and Burnley only have themselves to blame again.

CLOSE! James’ shot stopped by Pope

SAVE! James gets free in the box and thumps an effort at goal from a sharp angle on the right, but Pope makes himself big and blocks it away off his thigh!

GOAL! Chelsea 3-0 Burnley (Hudson-Odoi)

Azpilicueta whips a cross in towards the back post and Hudson-Odoi arrives to steer in Chelsea’s third! Surely that’s game over now.

65′ SAVE! Abraham’s shot saved!

Hudson-Odoi works a yard on the right and finds Mount at the byline, who fizzes a low ball to the near post for Abraham, but his effort is saved and Willian can’t steer the loose ball back at goal!

MISS! What a chance for Abraham!

Mount lofts a lovely ball into the box for Abraham, who found space at the near post, but he gets his header badly wrong and skews it well wide from a great position!

SAVE! Pope denies Willian’s shot

The ball is sprayed to Willian on the left and he takes a touch before striking high towards the top corner of the near post with his weaker foot, but Pope tips it over the bar!
