Agents of Man Utd transfer target Gedson Fernandes’ ‘in England for talks’
Portuguese youngster Gedson Fernandes has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in January, and reports from his homeland suggest that his representatives have headed to England for transfer talks.
The 20-year-old Fernandes, who has two senior caps for Portugal, is said to be available this month as he struggles to hold down a place at Benfica, who are thought to be keen to cash in on the midfielder while interest in him remains high.
Benfica would also reportedly accept a loan deal with a view to a permanent switch in the summer, but United would have to move swiftly to tie up a deal in the face of mounting competition.
Lyon and AC Milan have also been linked with a move for Fernandes, who has featured eight times this season, but Record say his agents have been in England this week.
He made more of an impact in the 2018/19 campaign, playing 34 games and scoring one goal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken of his desire to bring in players in January, but insists he is also happy with his current squad.
“I’m optimistic we can keep players fit and if the right ones become available we do have the resources,” he said at a press conference on Tuesday.
“There’s no point suddenly bringing someone else in now for the sake of three or four months if that can disrupt any good feeling or chemistry in the group, because the chemistry in the group is really good.
“It has to be the right type and it has to be a good investment for the long term as well.”
