Penarol have a new coach and they’ve appointed Uruguayan legend Diego Forlan.
The striker played for the Montevideo club towards the end of his career, after also playing up front for European giants like Manchester United, Inter, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid.
This will be the 40-year-old’s first head coaching job and MARCA has learned that he is set to be joined on his coaching staff by his brother Pablo, while his father Pablo Senior will be an assessor and Santiago Alfaro will be the fitness coach
Forlan had the chance to become Independiente de Avellaneda sporting director a few weeks ago, but turned that down as he wanted to hold out for a head coaching job, which he now has.
He’ll start in January.
