Hijab Wearing Girl Captured Leading Pack Of Hemp Smokers In Ibadan (see picture)
The picture of a young girl wearing hijab and leading a pack of other hemp smokers in Ibadan has defined the level of immorality among the youths in the society.
The picture was taken by this writer at the Oja Oba axis of Ibadan.
It was on a Sunday afternoon and the writer while on an assignment to cover a ceremony at the Mapo Hall, Ibadan stumbled on a set of girls, between the ages of 14-17 hanging around while smoking marijuana which is popularly called ‘igbo’ on the street.
Upon investigation, the writer discovered it’s a common practise to see young people smoking hemp in public, not minding their gender.
Ramota Alabi, a pepper seller living within the area revealed it’s no longer a strange sight, we see them everyday
and it’s becoming the norms around here.
Stunning this writer, Ramota asked ‘opolopo ninu won lo ti bimo!’ (some of the girls are mothers), they get pregnant at early ages and survive on whatever life throws at them.
The writer had the chance to meet one of the young smokers. She gave her name as Ramota and corrected she was 19 and not 14 as the writer thought.
She claimed she was introduced to drugs by her boyfriend when she was 15. She said she got pregnant when she was in JSS 2 and was sent packing by her mechanic father, she had nowhere to go than to pitch with the 19 year-old Afeez, an okada rider that put her in a family way.
Ramota hinted she has joined a rehabilitation centre, that she was among some girls approached by an NGO and now she is looking forward to starting a new life.
