Manchester United: Paul Pogba is set to return to full training next week,Jesse Lingard will be assessed
Manchester United will assess Jesse Lingard before deciding on their squad for the Premier League visit of Everton on Sunday but Paul Pogba is set to return to full training next week.
Lingard missed the 4-0 Europa League win against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night with a muscular injury and is a slight doubt for United’s weekend fixture.
Pogba has only played six times this season after suffering an ankle injury in the draw at Southampton on August 31.
The 26-year-old returned for the League Cup third round tie with Rochdale on September 25 and lined up against Arsenal five days later, but has not appeared since.
Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are also close to recovering from long-term knee injuries and due to resume full training next week. “I’m not sure on Jesse but I hope,” Solskjaer said. “He wasn’t training today so we’ll check him on Saturday probably.
“He’s really come good now. He’s been fit, he’s been training well so we hope so. Next week Eric will start training, Tim will start training. Paul will probably start training with us next week properly. Let’s see.”
“I don’t know how other clubs think but I know we have traditions we need to keep. We need to stick to them and the values of the club. The others might start thinking the same.”
When asked whether he had any advice for Ferguson, Solskjaer joked: “Play his second team against us! Play his reserves!
“Just be himself. If you try to be someone else you’re going to get found out anyway in the end. That’s what I’ve always tried to be, myself. I’m sure Big Dunc is the same.
“He was 100 per cent action and passion as a player and I’m sure he’s the same as a manager.”
