Chelsea 2-1 Aston Villa:Lampard’s men return to winning ways end 3-game winless run as Abraham injured again

Frank Lampard’s men return to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa to ensure an unhappy return to Stamford Bridge for John Terry.

2019/2020 #PremierLeague:- 2 – 1
Abraham (24′)
Mount (48′)
Trezeguet (41′)

Tammy Abraham claimed a goal and an assist against former club Aston Villa, while Willian excelled, as Chelsea responded to back-to-back Premier League defeats by deservedly beating Aston Villa 2-1 on John Terry’s return to Stamford Bridge.

Abraham, who scored 26 times on loan to help Villa to promotion last season, returned from a hip injury on Wednesday and claimed his 11th Premier League goal of a brilliant breakthrough campaign to put Chelsea ahead after 24 minutes.

Trezeguet rounded off a fine move in somewhat comedic fashion to pull Villa level before the break, but a wonderful Mason Mount volley – from Abraham’s chested lay-off – restored the home side’s lead early in the second half.

With Willian superb, Chelsea were unable to claim the additional goals they merited as a host of further chances went begging, but boss Frank Lampard could still be happy with a much-needed three points in the wake of successive losses to Manchester City and West Ham, his only real concern being the sight of Abraham limping off in the closing minutes.

Willian’s shot stopped by Heaton

Pulisic drives forward in possession before laying it off to Willian on the right-hand side of the box, but he then sees his grazing effort from a tight angle pushed wide by Heaton.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Aston Villa (Abraham)

GOOOAL! Abraham makes it 1-0 to Chelsea! James clips a delivery into the box from just outside the right-hand side of the box, and Abraham rises highest in the centre of the area before directing his header beyond Heaton.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-1 Aston Villa (Trezeguet)

GOOOAL! Trezeguet makes it 1-1! El Mohamady clips an excellent delivery into the box from the right flank, and Trezeguet meets the cross before bundling the ball into bottom right-hand corner.

GOAL! Chelsea 2-1 Aston Villa (Mount)

GOOOAL! Mount makes it 2-1 to Chelsea! Willian clips a cross towards Abraham inside the box and the striker chests it back to Mount on the fringes of the area, and he thumps an impressive volley into the roof of the net.

That’s a fine assist from Tammy Abraham.

Azpilicueta’s shot wide out

Azpilicueta skids an early delivery into the box from the left-hand side, but it’s rebounded back into the path of the full-back following Mings’ block, and he then bends his effort wide of the right-hand post.

Abraham off injured again

Abraham’s injury means Chelsea are forced into their first change of the match as Batshuayi enters the fray in his place.

What a save from Kepa

AVE! Villa send in a delivery from deep on the right flank, and it lands at the head of Douglas Luiz who sees his glancing header saved by Arrizabalaga at the bottom left-hand corner.
