N2bn fraud:Witness has narrated ‘How Maina, son made huge withdrawals’

witness and branch manager, United Bank for Africa, Mairo Bashir, has narrated to Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, how Abdurrasheed Maina, former chairman of Pension Reform Task Team and his son,Faisal, made huge withdrawals, which he considered as unusual, from their accounts with UBA.

The Economic and Financial CrimesCommission is prosecuting Maina on 12 counts bordering on operating fictitiousbank accounts, fraud, money launderingand corruption to the tune of over N2bn, while his son is facing three counts bordering on money laundering, corruption and failure to fully disclose his asset.

 Testifying under cross-examination by the defence counsel, Esther Uzonna, during the continuation of the trial on Wednesday, Bashir presented documents indicating that Faisal on June 13, 2019, withdrew N58.1m.

 “Under cross-examination, prosecution witness, Bashir disclosed that a cash withdrawal was made in Maina’s accounton February 8, 2015, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates through an ATM to the tune of $323,396.

“This was captured in Exhibit B2, page three,” a statement by the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said.
