FC Bayern Munich have officially Sacked coach Niko Kovac after 16 months in charge.

Kovac leaves the club just one day after they were thrashed 5-1 at his former club Frankfurt.

They are currently fourth in the Bundesliga, four points behind leaders Borussia Monchengladbach after 10 games.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT:

FC Bayern Munich have relieved head coach Niko Kovac of his duties as head coach. 

That was the result of a mutual discussion with Niko Kovac on Sunday involving Bayern president Uli Hoeneß, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, during which Niko Kovac offered his resignation.

Assistant coach Hansi Flick will take charge of the Bayern first team until further notice and prepare the team for the important games in the Champions League against Olympiacos on Wednesday and Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
