Italy took Okorocha’s Advise, moves to reduce number of lawmakers from 945 to 600

The Italian parliament has approved a law to reduce the number of lawmakers by 345.the same law ex Governor and now Senator Okorocha advocates for.

When this law comes into effect, the number of Members of Parliament and Senators would reduce from  945 to 600.

According to the UK Times, the law was proposed by the anti-establishment Five Star party, which has always railed against the perceived lavish lifestyle of politicians and demanded that their numbers be trimmed.

“This is a historic moment for our country — we will soon have 345 fewer parliamentarians and millions of euros to invest in public services,” Five Star said of the measure, which is expected to save €100 million (£90 million) a year.

“We did it,” said Five Star’s leader, Luigi Di Maio.

“Another historic promise kept,” he added.

Recently, former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, now a senator representing Imo West in the upper legislative chamber proposed that there should be only one elected senator from each state, instead of the current three senators, in a bid to cut the cost of governance.
