Most traditional religions for Africa have developed at the local level and are unique to a particular society. Common elements include a belief in a creator god, who is rarely if ever represented in art and directly approached by worshipers. Instead, the supreme deity is petitioned through intermediaries, or lesser spirits. These spirits may be related to the natural world and have control over powerful natural phenomena. A Nigerian man was pictured stark naked while performing some spiritual rites in a river in Bayelsa state.

The young man who is a member of an Ijaw religious group known as the Order of Egbesu Brotherhood (OEB), used chicken and some other traditional items as he prayed in the river. He took to social media to share pictures of himself during the spiritual performance to show he’s a strong believer.

Egbesu is the god or deity of warfare of the Ijaw people of the Niger Delta region, and Egbesu is the spiritual foundation for combating evil. The traditional African religions are a set of diverse beliefs that include various African ethnic religions. Generally, these traditions are oral rather than scriptural, and include belief in a supreme creator, belief in spirits, veneration of the dead, use of magic and traditional medicine. The role of humanity is generally seen as one of harmonising nature with the supernatural.
